ELIMINATING WASTE AND TOXIC CHEMICALS FROM TEXTILE MANUFACTURING
PFCs are endemic in most textile manufacturing and when they aren’t disposed of properly, they can contribute to runoff polluting oceans and freshwater habitats. Once PFCs are introduced into an environment, they remain persistent in water and sediments and often bioaccumulate within land and marine mammals.
Studies have shown that PFCs can remain persistent in humans and have negative effects on the immune system, hormones, and the liver. In 2019, the EU moved to ban PFCs in all manufacturing because of the detrimental and lasting effects they have on the environment and to human health.
It is estimated that 20% of global water pollution comes from textile dyeing & finishing processes.
Water waste is endemic in chemistry and in textile manufacturing. On average, one pair of jeans consumes 1,800 gallons of fresh water to produce. This polluted water often then becomes chemical runoff contaminating waterways including freshwater sources and hurting marine life.
Soliyarn’s vaporized coating process drastically minimizes water usage and eliminates the use of toxic, carcinogenic chemicals, while being more effective at coating fabrics than traditional methods.
Soliyarn’s water-free proprietary technologies have the potential to dramatically reduce CO2 emissions by eliminating wastewater generation and subsequent treatment. Textile dyeing and finishing caused 72 billion cubic meters of wastewater pollution in 2019, which led to over 300 metric tons of CO2 emissions. By adopting Soliyarn’s dry treatment process, the industry could drastically reduce its carbon footprint.
